Every year we get excited about the sixth grade mission trip. For most of our students, this is their first experience with short-term mission work. We love introducing them to the idea that Jesus “came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). The sacrifice Jesus gave when He died on the cross for the sins of the whole world was a once-and-for-all kind of thing. The way He sacrificially served, however, was not. As His followers, we are all called to serve and love others in the way Jesus did.

The sixth grade trip is unique as an opportunity to serve in our own community. Most of these students (and even some of the leaders) have never seen some of the areas of Houston we visit. There is poverty, brokenness, and need in our own backyard, and the chance to pray over, serve, and love Houston is such a blessing.

Our desire in MDPC Youth is to hear God’s Word and do what it says! We want to take the love and grace God so richly pours on us and share it with the world. The sixth graders are able to experience the vision we have as a ministry to “risk all, love all, to make His name great!” This trip is an exciting experience and a great reminder of the blessing we have to serve as followers of Jesus.
